Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

What is the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League?

  • The LWML is the official women’s auxiliary of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LC-MS).
  • Its motto is “Serve the Lord with Gladness,” taken from Psalm 100:2.
  • Women of the LWML strive to assist each other in affirming their relationships with the Triune God.
  • The LWML society at University Lutheran Church (ULu) is focused on ministering to the student population as well as to others in our church and local community.
  • Find out more about the LWML at http://www.lwml.org/.

Mission Focus

One important focus of the LWML is the support of missions. Members are encouraged to collect spare change in special boxes. The boxes are called “Mite Boxes,” based on the parable of the widow’s mite told in Luke 21:1-4.  The mites are collected and used by the District and national LWML organizations to support mission work in the United States and abroad. You can do your part by gathering your spare change and bringing it in for our "Pocket Change Sundays" on the last Sunday of each month. In addition to the collection of mites, our society helps with service projects within the church and in the community.

How can I join?

If you are a female member of the LC-MS, you are already a member of the LWML. Any woman who attends ULu may become an active member of our society! Please contact the church (ULutheranChurch@gmail.com) if you would like to be placed on our email list and receive updates about what we are doing, or if you have any questions.

What can I do to help?

There are countless small ways to serve others! Here is just one idea: re-purpose plastic bags for a great cause. Check out this video for a tutorial on how to cut plastic bags into strips that can be used for Hands of Mercy Mission, a Christian outreach to people with disabilities in South Sudan.
